What it is

When you are admitted to a Korean hospital, the standard multi-bed ward is covered by National Health Insurance. Choosing a smaller room adds a daily charge (상급병실료 차액). This page shows that extra charge per day.

What the price includes

Prices are the extra charge per day for the room. Meals, medicine and treatment are billed separately.

Health insurance

In many hospitals two- and three-bed rooms are now partly covered by National Health Insurance; single rooms are generally not. Uninsured patients pay the full room price, not just this difference.

Questions

Can I ask for a single room?

Yes, if one is free. Hospitals must explain the daily charge before you move in. In big university hospitals single rooms are often full, so ask early.
