What it is
A composite resin filling is a tooth-coloured filling placed and hardened with a blue light in one visit. HIRA lists prices by how many surfaces of the tooth are filled, and separately for worn or chipped teeth.
What the price includes
Prices are per tooth. Fillings covering more surfaces take longer and cost more.
Health insurance
National Health Insurance covers resin fillings for cavities in the permanent teeth of children aged 12 and under. For adults resin fillings are non-covered.

Questions
Why does the price depend on surfaces?
A tooth has five surfaces. A small cavity may touch only the chewing surface; a cavity between two teeth affects two or three surfaces and needs more material and time.
